Analysts at Freedom Broker have initiated coverage on the U.S. telecommunications and cable sector by adding AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, and Charter Communications, alongside previously covered T-Mobile US. The most attractive stocks in the sector are seen as T-Mobile and AT&T, both rated “Buy” with target prices of $270 and $30, respectively. Verizon, Comcast, and Charter have been assigned a “Hold” rating.
According to analysts, the U.S. telecom sector has entered a new phase of development, where success increasingly depends on companies’ ability to offer both mobile and fixed broadband services. This bundled model enhances customer retention, increases revenue per household, and reduces churn.
The industry is gradually shifting away from aggressive subscriber acquisition strategies, focusing instead on monetizing existing customers. Metrics such as ARPA (average revenue per account) and free cash flow are gaining prominence — the latter becoming a key valuation driver and primary source of shareholder returns.
Large-scale industry consolidation deals are having an additional impact on the market. Verizon completed the acquisition of Frontier Communications, one of the largest fiber-optic internet operators in the US. AT&T acquired Lumen's Mass Markets division, gaining over a million internet subscribers and millions of new households. Charter Communications is preparing to complete its merger with cable operator Cox Communications, creating the largest cable network in the country by number of households served. Analysts expect the integration of these assets to shape the competitive landscape in the next few years.
Despite ongoing pressure from fiber optic networks, fixed wireless access (FWA), and satellite technologies, Telecom companies maintain stable cash flows and are able to combine investments in network development with share buyback programs and dividend payments.
