FB experts believe that the energy and industrial sectors have retained their leading positions in the US market, despite the heterogeneous performance of major indexes and pressure on technology companies. Based on trading results, the energy sector and industry demonstrated the most robust growth among the sectors included in the S&P 500 index.
During the latest trading session, investor sentiment remained subdued due to pressure on some technology giants and consumer sector companies. Freedom Broker highlights that the energy sector was the top performer among sectoral indexes, gaining 0.54 %. Industrial companies rose by 0.49 %. The energy sector received support from persistently high commodity prices, while industrial companies benefited from steady demand and expectations of increased capital expenditures on infrastructure projects.
At the same time, the underperformers of the trading session were the communication services sector, which lost 2.37 %, as well as producers of discretionary consumer goods, which declined by 1.89 %, and staples companies, which fell by 1.34 %.
According to Freedom Broker analysts, investor interest is gradually shifting towards more traditional sectors amid rising yields on US Treasury bonds and growing expectations of a tighter monetary policy from the Federal Reserve System. This sector rotation is contributing to heightened demand for shares of energy and industrial companies.
