Apple’s (AAPL) lawsuit against OpenAI could become more than just another corporate dispute—it may be a factor that slows the ChatGPT developer’s expansion in the consumer device market. This is the conclusion reached by Freedom Broker analysts commenting on the new legal battle between the tech companies.

Conflict between Apple and OpenAI

According to Freedom Broker analysts, the key risk for OpenAI lies not so much in the financial consequences of the claim as in a potential slowdown of its long-term strategy for developing hardware products. The lawsuit could complicate OpenAI’s продвижение on the device market and intensify competition among the largest players—in particular, Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL) and Meta Platforms (META).

The fight for leadership in the AI segment goes beyond software and is moving into devices, infrastructure, and user ecosystems. The key competitive advantage is control over the ecosystem of devices, software, and user data.

What Apple’s claims are about

According to information presented in the Freedom Broker review, Apple (AAPL) filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and two former company employees, accusing them of misappropriating trade secrets.

The details of the allegations have not yet been disclosed; however, the very fact of the legal proceedings indicates intensifying competition among the крупнейшими market participants. The conflict arose amid OpenAI’s active expansion beyond traditional AI services and the company’s стремления to strengthen its position in new technology segments.

OpenAI accelerates the development of its own ecosystem

The news came a few days after the presentation of the new ChatGPT Work agent based on the GPT-5.6 model.

The tool is designed to perform complex work tasks across various applications and can independently create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and other materials based on user data. At the same time, the company introduced a new ChatGPT desktop app, expanding its own product ecosystem.

According to Bloomberg, OpenAI is also considering an initial public offering in 2027. Sources say the company has already filed a confidential application with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), although the IPO may take place later than that of one of its main competitors, Anthropic.
