Walmart reported better-than-expected Q2 results and raised its full-year forecast

On August 20, Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) reported a Q2 profit of $6.37 billion (80 cents per share), compared with $7.03 billion (88 cents per share) a year earlier.
Adjusted earnings were 81 cents per share. Revenue for the reporting period rose to $187.94 billion from $177.4 billion. Earnings were expected at 74 cents per share on revenue of $186.77 billion.
Comparable Walmart U.S. sales increased by 2.6%, versus expectations for 3.7% growth.
The company raised its forecast for adjusted full-year earnings per share to a range of $2.80–2.87 (from $2.75–2.85), compared with the consensus forecast of $2.90, and expects net sales growth of 4.0–5.0%. However, the company’s Q3 EPS forecast of 62–64 cents came in below the consensus forecast of 69 cents.
