NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) plans to begin shipping small batches of a new specialized AI chip to Chinese customers by the end of the year, The Information reported.
Nvidia is preparing to ship small batches of a specialized variant of a language processing unit (LPU) under U.S. export restrictions. Several customers in China have already placed orders for this equipment. Nvidia originally developed the LPU for use as part of the Vera Rubin system paired with Rubin graphics processors. Because trade restrictions do not allow Vera Rubin systems to be sold in China, Nvidia modified the base software so that the LPU can work with other processors available in the country.
