The experience of Netflix’s (NFLX) new chief content officer, Peter Rice, could reinforce the company’s long-term strategy, says Freedom Broker analyst Vladimir Chernov. However, to bring the stock back up, investors need confirmation of viewing and revenue growth: the appointment itself has not yet changed the market’s cautious stance toward the shares.
Netflix is a video service offering films, series, and live streams via subscription. The appeal of its library helps retain the audience, attract new users, and expand its advertising business.

Peter Rice to lead content creation and acquisition
Netflix announced Rice’s appointment on October 15. He will start on October 26, replacing Bela Bajaria, who is leaving the company after nearly ten years.
Rice will oversee the global content organization, including series, films, and live streams. Previously, he held senior roles at Disney and 21st Century Fox, managing television and film projects.
In Chernov’s view, Rice’s experience and his Hollywood connections could help Netflix create new hit projects. The emergence of films and series capable of attracting a broad audience would be a supportive factor for the stock.
The market reacted cautiously to the appointment
As Oninvest reports, the management change took place amid a roughly 40% decline in Netflix shares over the year. After the news, the stock lost another 1.1% in after-hours trading.
Chernov attributes the restrained reaction to persistent concerns about a lack of high-profile premieres. Appointing an experienced executive improves the long-term outlook, but the impact of his decisions will take time.
The nearest catalyst is earnings on October 20
Netflix plans to publish its Q3 results and business outlook on October 20, after the U.S. market close.
Chernov considers the report the key near-term event for the shares. Investors need to assess whether the company is managing to accelerate viewing growth and convert audience interest into additional revenue.
At the same time, the quarterly results will reflect Netflix’s operations before Rice takes office. The results of the new content strategy can be judged later.
According to the analyst, successful new projects can support the share price; however, until improved metrics are confirmed, the risk of further downside remains.
Audience engagement has already been in investors’ focus
Previously, Freedom Broker reported that Netflix’s Q2 revenue fell short of market expectations. It came in at $12.56 billion versus the expected $12.59 billion, although earnings per share slightly exceeded the forecast.
At that time, investors’ attention was also focused on viewing and audience retention. The company expected to double advertising revenue in 2026, to about $3 billion. These targets show why, in assessing Netflix’s outlook, both the appeal of new projects and the ability to increase revenue from the existing audience matter.
This is not an individual investment recommendation.
