SpaceX to build a Terafab in Texas with initial investments of $16.8 billion

SpaceX reported on August 6 that it will invest, in the initial stages jointly with Tesla, $16.8 billion in the construction of the advanced Terafab AI-chip manufacturing complex in the state of Texas.

The Terafab complex is intended to narrow the gap between the existing global supply of microchips and the computing power that, according to SpaceX and Tesla forecasts, they will need in the coming years. Combined demand from SpaceX and Tesla is projected to exceed 1 terawatt of computing power, which significantly exceeds current global production volume.
