Income typically includes:
- Net result from the sale of exempt securities (assuming that profits and losses are offset);
- Net result from the sale of non-exempt securities (also assuming the netting of profits and losses);
- Income from derivative financial instrument transactions;
- Dividends, coupons, fees, and similar payments, if they were not subject to withholding tax in Kazakhstan.
Net loss from securities transactions is always considered zero and is not carried forward to future tax periods. A loss on exempt securities cannot be used to reduce profit on non-exempt securities. Conversely, the profit on non-exempt securities does not reduce profit on exempt securities.
Income or loss from the sale of securities is calculated on a first-in, first-out basis (FIFO). This means that securities are written off in the order in which they were received. The law establishes this method as the only one. The calculation takes into account not only the purchase price of the securities but also the investor's expenses, such as brokerage and other intermediaries fees and commissions.
